Encypher text watermark
A C2PA soft binding for text. When Encypher signs text, it embeds an invisible identifier that links the text to its C2PA Manifest. If the embedded manifest is removed, the identifier still leads back to it.

How it works
Embedding
When Encypher signs text, it adds an identifier to the text at the same time as the C2PA Manifest. The identifier is invisible: the text reads and renders exactly as written.
Extraction
Encypher's verifier reads the identifier from text a person or system submits. It can read it from the full text, or from an excerpt copied out of it if the excerpt is long enough.
Resolution
Encypher looks the identifier up in its manifest repository and returns the C2PA Manifest for that text.
Validation
The returned manifest is validated in the normal C2PA way: its signature and its hard binding to the content. The watermark locates the manifest. It does not prove authenticity on its own.
What it survives
- Removal of the embedded C2PA Manifest.
- Copy and paste between applications that keep Unicode text intact.
- Excerpting: a passage copied out of a longer signed text.
- Light editing: a few words changed, added or removed. The verifier identifies the source and reports the text as modified.
What it does not survive
- Text rewritten throughout, whether retyped, paraphrased by a person or an AI tool, or translated.
- Screenshots and optical character recognition.
- Software that reduces text to plain characters.
